Satellite Receiver Equipment

To support the reception of multicast media streams, broadcast from SatstreamNet when operating in independent mode ie via separate satellite channels, independent of any on-board broadband network, each vessel will be equipped with Satstream Media’s Satellite Receiver Equipment. An independent mode configuration showing the Receiver Equipment and Media Gateway is shown in the figure opposite.

The Receiver Equipment supports the movement of the vessel from one satellite beam to the next by automatically re-configuring the additional satellite modem with the appropriate parameters of the new satellite beam such as satellite channel frequency, data rate and modulation coding scheme using pre-stored satellite beam maps and signal parameters as well as real time inputs such as vessel GPS and modem feedback signals.

The equipment set includes the following
  • a satellite modem to receive the separate satellite channels
  • our proprietary roaming controller which configures the satellite modem receive parameters;
  • optional DVB-IP Receiver to receive specific encrypted TV channels

Independent Mode Functionality

  • Inter-connection of the satellite modem to an existing antenna is achieved by splitting the Rx L-Band link at the input to the operational satellite modem and connecting the other leg of the splitter to the SatstreamNet modem.
  • The splitting of the L-band link to the operational modem has no impact on the performance of the operational network.
  • The Receiver Equipment can be configured to disable reception of live media streams when the vessel enters national waters. This may be a requirement of certain content providers.
